Speed Skiing World Cup Andorra 2012 Grandvalira - Grau Roig Pas de la Casa

Saturday-Sunday 25 & 26 february, 10:00 am cet

Esquí de Velocitat, presentació copa del mon andorra 2012[Andorre 17-fev-2012] - F.I.S* Speed Skiing World Cup goes through Andorra on 25th and 26th of february 2012. The slope chosen for this special ski practice will the one of 'Antenes at  Grandvalira Ski Resort, Grau Roig- Pas de la Case sector (Pitu Figueras slope), it is 900 m long with a 200m height difference.

For the moment 54 skiers are registered to try to slide down the Pitu Figueras slope the fastest as possible. On Saturday les training sessions and classifiers are on the schedule and on sunday the semi-finals and finals.

Speed skiing finds its origins in Norway  (telemark). It was a demo olympic discipline at Albertville (France) Olympic Games in 1992.
For this world cup stage in Andorra, several nationalities will be represented (Norway, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA, Austria, Canada, Italy, Germany, etc.).
The L'Andorran stage ris the first one on the competition calendar before the other stage at Sun Peaks Canada (8-11 de mars), Vars France (15-18 of march), Idre/Hundjallen/Sallen Sweden (21-25 of march) and Verbier Switzerland (16-19of April ).

Speed Skiing World Records mondiaux today belong to  Italy Simone Origone with 251,40 km/hour(2007) and Sweden Sanna Tidstrand with 242,59 km/hour(2006). Last year in Andorra, on the same slope in Grandvalira, registered speeds were about 150 km/hour with a record on Antenes Slope for Switzerland Philippe May and his 161,94 km/h (2011, source: Diari d'Andorra).
